Arbitron, Inc is a radio audience research company in the United States which collects listener data on radio audiences similar to that collected by Nielsen Media Research on television audiences, and provides targeting and marketing services in the United States and International. It services include radio audience measurement and related services to radio stations, advertising agencies, and advertisers in the United States; measuring national radio audiences and the size and composition of audiences of network radio programs and commercials; and providing software used for accessing and analyzing its media audience and marketing information data. The company also provides consumer, shopping, and media usage information services to radio, cable television, advertising agencies, advertisers, retailers, out-of-home media, and online media industries, as well as to broadcast television and print media industry. As of December 31, 2007, Arbitron provided radio audience measurement and related services to approximately 4,500 radio stations and 2,200 advertising agencies and advertisers; and qualitative measurement and related services to 61 cable systems and 86 out-of-home media customers. The company, formerly known as Ceridian Corporation, was founded as American Ratings Bureau by Jim Seiler in 1949, and became Arbitron in the 1960s. It is now headquartered in New York, New York.
