Piqqem released its weekly technology sentiment for the week ending May 28, 2010, and although the overall Piqqem technology sentiment index was flat, the internet and mobile sector showed a sharp increase.  After another week of high volatility in the US equity markets, technology sentiment remained flat at 27.16. Within the technology sectors, hardware & networking was down 1.30 to end at 31.36, software and gaming was down .21 to end at 28.84, semiconductor was down .11 to end at 27.83, and finally internet and mobile rose 1.64 to finish at 20.61. A sentiment rating of 25 and above is considered positive.

Microsoft - Sentiment Surges Ahead of Earnings

The above chart shows Microsoft’s Q1 sentiment increasing by 22 points from the beginning of the quarter thru today. As a comparison, sentiment for the NASDAQ index dropped 20 pts in the same period, which makes Microsoft’s overall sentiment even more impressive. On the Piqqem scale, Microsoft’s sentiment rating of 32.21 is considered a buy and its absolute sentiment indicates a high quality stock. Only Microsoft knows their actual results, but current sentiment points to the Windows maker delivering good news on Thursday.

Activision - Sentiment Remains Strong Ahead of Q1 2010 Earnings

Activision’s sentiment remained strong, but flat from the beginning of the quarter thru today. As a comparison, sentiment for the NASDAQ index dropped 14 pts in the same period, which makes Activision’s strong sentiment even more impressive. On the Piqqem scale, Activision’s sentiment rating of 38.79 is considered a buy and its absolute sentiment indicates a high quality stock. Only Activision knows their actual results, but current sentiment points to the game developer delivering good news on Wednesday.

Apple vs. Google – Apple Winning Sentiment War

Ever wonder who’s really winning in the war of Apple (AAPL) vs. Google (GOOG)? If you look at the facts it is really quite confusing. Apple has a $221 Billion market cap, while Google’s market cap is still impressive at $158 Billion. Google has stronger gross margins of 63% with a net income as a percentage of revenue at 29.6%, while Apple has lower gross margins of 41.67% with a net income as a percentage of revenue at 22.77%. Apple is trading at 82% of it 52 week trading range, while Google is trading at 47% of its 52 week trading range.
